what's in a name?

ecs That's me.

One of the things that impressed me the most is that Jess Lively is exactly what you'd expect her to be in person - bright, thoughtful and kind. Jess, her blog and her workshops are one in the same - a brand. As soon as we got started in the Business With Intention workshop last weekend, it became very clear that Jess had done some homework on each of our blogs/businesses. The first thing she said to me was that I wasn't at all what she expected and basically, my blog and shop did me no favors. It also became very clear, very quickly that Jess had big plans for me. I can't tell you what it felt like to have someone that interested and excited about me - it was a little heady. That set the tone for the workshop and it was infectious.

We worked on coming up with a purpose statement for my business.  My purpose = my talents + how I help people. Sounds simple right? It is that simple. I've been making it so much more complicated than it needed to be and it was holding me back. I'm an artist with great personal style and those two facts together make me special. While the name 'seagrass studio' has a special meaning personally, it doesn't represent me and if you clicked through to my blog or my shop you still wouldn't have any idea how fabulous I am. What does represent me, and only me, is my name - elizabeth crane swartz and everything going forward will come from my name. My jewelry is an extension of me and my style and we should all be working together  - a brand.

To recap, step one of creating my business with intention will begin with elizabethcraneswartz.com and to give my site and shop a new look. I'm not sure what that is exactly but you can be sure it'll be classic, elegant and graphic.

** For the record, my mother and my aunt have said from the beginning that I should use my name instead of seagrass studio and I'd like to take this opportunity to say they were right.
