I don't know much about Jason Wu except that he's a young designer with a great eye for shape and fit and dressed Michelle Obama for BOTH inaugural balls. I've been doing a little research because I get to hear him speak tonight at the ICA in Boston with some fellow fashionable #bostonbloggers. I love how he described his (now sold out) Target collection as "a sophisticated voice with an American sportswear spin” and his Miss Wu collection for Nordstrom as "modern gamine with a nod to 1960′s cool" - both of which I can get behind and aligns nicely with my Doris Day aesthetic.
I know I've tried to explain W.W.D.D.W. before but Doris Day falls somewhere between Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn and the girl next door. A fabulous combination of tomboy/confidence/quirk/glamour. Her look, to me, feels the same way the Martha Stewart Living team explains their brand - "everyday yet at the same time very elevated." Does that make sense?
"A sophisticated voice with an American sportswear spin" - I may have to borrow this one.
