CARD ART 2020

I’ve been eyeing the cricut machines for years now and finally took the plunge. I’ve had ideas in the past that were utterly impossible to duplicate at my card art scale. like, no way am I going to make 175+ cards, by hand, with some of my crazy ideas and the maker was going to change all that. or was it?

it was incredibly easy to set up and link to my wifi, etc. but getting started was waaaay harder. I like to think I’m pretty tech savvy but I watched so many youtube videos on how to design with the cricut maker and still wasn’t understanding. I finally realized that the window I wanted to make wasn’t going to be found in the circuit design studio and I would need to create something in procreate first.

I’ll spare you the specifics but the timeline of non-events from unboxing to cutting paper was about a month. I will say that it worked out and looks like I imagined but I am by no means proficient at either procreate or the cricut. also, while I wasn’t the one cutting the paper it was a tedious process to cue the cut, load the paper, and wait for the cut. multiplied by 175. because of that, I decided to go old school for my idea of a wreath.

to make the wreath, I used my leftover, paint-splattered paper from last year and my hole punch collection from cardart 18 and that process went much faster. for the wreath’s bow, I used my tiny hole punch and tied bakery string. the whole thing is held together using a good ole fashioned glue stick and a sticky dot behind the wreath.

a few fun facts:

• this was not the original idea I had - I was thinking of a door but last year’s card was mostly red so I pivoted

• most of the supplies were things I had on hand from past cardart

• I actually lost sleep trying to sort out how to make the wreath without using the cricut.

• this should be relatively easy to needlepoint as an ornament
